I went to the library today to get a copy of the Tanakh. I was prompted by my mother after a lengthy conversation that involved Mormon missionaries. So, upon checking my library's website I realized they had a copy of the Tanakh.
So after I found it I headed to check it, and some other books, out. The librarian and I flipped the book around a couple of times because we both sensed the book's oddly placed scan bar. I said to her, "Hey, the book reads from back to front." We laughed a little bit and then I finished checking out.
It's rather comical because I realized that I had not initially noticed the way the book is written because I read a lot of manga* and manga is read from back to front. And if one really wants to get into it one could also say that the Tanakh has funny characters like untranslated manga. However I wonder if that would insult someone.
Another thing that struck me is how different the religion must be and it really got me excited. I'm used to cultural differences but some times I realize all the frontiers I have yet to explore. It’s been a long time since I have been a fish out of water, and I look forward to the challenges it'll bring. Hell, I had to add the word “Tanakh” to my Microsoft Word dictionary.
* Manga = Japanese comic books.
